Mega International airport in Ethiopia

Plans are underway for the construction of a mega International airport in Ethiopia, the Ethiopian Airports Enterprise has announced. The Ethiopian Minister of Transport, Workneh Gebeyehu confirmed the reports and said that Ethiopia is to break the ground for a new mega hub airport in the vicinity of Addis Ababa. “The new mega hub will move the aviation industry in Ethiopia to a higher level. It will make Addis Ababa the aviation hub of Africa. The new airport will be the second mega project in the country (next to the Great Ethiopian Renaissance Dam)”, Workneh said. A French consultancy firm called ADPI that undertakes the study on new mega hub airport construction was appointed by the Ethiopian Airport Enterprise for consultancy services.

Africa’s first railway academy in Ethiopia to be constructed

Africa’s first ever railway academy in Ethiopia is set to be constructed in a bid to provide needed manpower for the immense railway projects in the country. The project construction is a partnership between Ethiopia and the Chinese government. The US$ 38m railway academy in Ethiopia will be timely and resourceful as Ethiopia is currently planning to undertake big railway projects to be constructed during the Second GTP period. Economic Affairs Special Advisor to the Prime Minister, Dr. Arkebe Equbay confirmed the reports and said that funds were acquired from the Government of China.

A Modern Engine Factory in Ethiopia to be constructed

The construction of a new mega modern engine factory in Ethiopia has commenced. The Ethiopian government is constructing a new engine factory that can manufacture different types of engines.The industrial unit is set to manufacture about twenty to thirty thousand different types of engines for tractors, cars, trucks, building industry machines and other small engines annually. The engine factory is under construction in Mekelle, Regional State of Tigray. The manufacturing plant rests on a 30 hectares piece of land and 90 % of the construction is already completed. Power Engineering Industry official Amanuel Abraha said the factory will be ready to commence production by November 2015.

Ethiopia Now Has A Space Program

Ethiopia, has managed to successfully launch one, a first for East Africa.Sat on top of the towering Mount Entoto, near the capital Addis Ababa, the center so far consists of two telescopes sheltered within large dome structures. Switched on a few months ago, the observatory came with a $3 million price tag. Modest for space research that may be, but not for a poverty-stricken, resource-poor country ravaged by famine that spends, on average, about $25 per person on health services annually. And for a country receiving substantial help in the form of aid, such as from the UK’s Department for International Development, at first glance the endeavor may seem a colossal waste of money.
