Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn inaugurated the Hawassa industrial park, an eco-friendly park, which has already started to court 15 leading global apparel and textile companies.
On the Occasion, Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn said the development of industrial parks comes at the heart of realizing the nations’ aspirations to transform its agriculture led economy and making Ethiopia a leading manufacturing hub in Africa.
He added, “The national vision targets at transforming a vibrant manufacturing sector, one that is labor-intensive and able to create millions of job opportunities in the country.”
The park which was built at a cost of 250 million USD is projected to generate 1billion USD annual earnings and create 60, 000 jobs in double shifts.
The eco-park makes use of Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD), an internationally proven capacity to recycle 85 percent of sewerage disposal.
Some 15 leading textile and garment companies from America, China, India, and Sri Lanka as well as six local companies are due to start operation in the park.
